And thank god for that! As you may know, during the 80's a lot of anime production companies were embracing the direct-to-video OAV format to produce material that would push Japanese animation screaming beyond the bounds of good taste. Naturally, with manga-to-anime remakes being as common as they are, a couple of studios saw this as an opportunity to adapt some of the works of the legendary (and oh-so-unsuitable-for-broadcast) manga writer Kazuo Koike. As a result, genius works like Crying Freeman, Mad Bull 34, and Hanappe Bazooka (a Go Nagai teamup!) were adapted to crazy, tasteless animation. But the craziest and most tasteless of these was certainly Kizuoibito, or our good ol' Wounded Man.
How did the story of a man who rapes to protect on his journey to dig for the gold that will defeat God's X-Rated Pornography fare in transition? Not badly, really. It's a pretty high-quality production from Madhouse, a studio that isn't known to skimp. The manga is apparently covered from beginning to end, and if you want to know what happens, Wounded Man has sex with women and they often die some time after this has happened. Some bits, though, are excised for length and for the anime's limited definition of good taste. Sorry, guys, the famous "I'm bleeding! Piss in my eye!" scene is out. The animation is certainly faithful to Ryoichi Ikegami's original work, though the simple fact that it's in color strips the work of some of its characteristic grime. The audio, meanwhile, hasn't aged well: a too-80's-- even for me-- synth score capped off by the exact same hysterically cheesy porno music during all of the copious sex scenes make the show almost as embarrassing to listen to as it is to watch.
I'm going to go ahead and link you to the currently unseeded torrent of my Hong Kong-subbed rips of Wounded Man, because it's unlikely you'd ever find this anime anywhere else. It was never re-released on DVD, and the original VHS tapes are long out of print. In conclusion, whenever Wounded Man fights somebody, he gets into a quarterback posture and reminds them that he used to play football. In the subtitles, he says "I was the vanguard of a soccer team." That is all.
Sorry, please seed this torrent for few days.
