Life is too short to be little, and Kouryu is ONE BIG COUNTRY

0001 So says Kouryu, the best of the various bootleg "revisions" of Street Fighter II: Championship Edition that were floating around in SF2's heyday. If you played one of these games, you probably played the famous "Rainbow Edition", so named for its puked-on logo. The idea of Rainbow Edition and its ilk was to take Street Fighter II and push everything to 11. The movement speed was set to fast-forward, you could do every special move in the air, and every time you hit Start you changed into another character. Most importantly, you could launch fireball after fireball, turning every match into a ridiculous exchange between two walls of homing missiles. Rainbow Edition wasn't even for a second workable as a serious videogame, but it was big, stupid fun for the five minutes the game managed to last before becoming boring.

What, then, is Kouryu and what the hell does it have to do with anything? Kouryu is the game that looked at Rainbow Edition and said "You didn't go far enough". Kouryu is a game that seeks out to make Rainbow Edition look normal by lacing it with PCP, and it is an overwhelming success. Running in fast-forward is for punks: in Kouryu even the slow guys like Zangief and Dhalsim can cross the screen in about half a second. Special moves can be done any damn time at all, including canceling special moves into other special moves, and even canceling special moves while being hit. C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER! Everything is always drifting in one direction or the other, and sometimes, inexplicably, the lights will go out. I don't know either. I made a video, though!

Anyway, those are the basics of why Kouryu is insane. Feel free to go find the rom and delve deeper into the mysteries of this exciting and nonsensical videogame nightmare. Remember: it's up to US  to start the international Kouryu tourney scene! You call Daigo, I'll call Chibita. Everybody come train at my place!
